The research of Tim Hogervorst is focused on the interaction of materials with ice. By studying known (biological) ice binders we aim to develop new materials or molecules that modify ice-properties such as freezing & melting temperature, shape of ice crystals and the rate of ice (re)crystallization. The ability to modify these properties is useful for cryopreservation of cells, tissue and organs.
