Dr. Türkan Ertuna Lagrand works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of International and European Law. She specializes in European asylum and immigration law and the external relations law of the EU. She also has a strong interest in equality and non-discrimination law. Türkan is a member of the Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe (RENFORCE).
Türkan obtained her law degree at the Ankara University, and her LL.M. degree -on International Business and Trade Law- at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2001. After obtaining her LL.M. degree she went back to Turkey where she worked at the White & Case LLP and became a member of the Ankara Bar, where she is still registered as an attorney. In September 2004, she moved back to the Netherlands to write her Ph.D. thesis on European Immigration Law as an AIO at the European Law Department of the Erasmus University School of Law, where she also taught various EU Law courses. Upon defending her Ph.D. thesis in 2010, Türkan worked for a year at a migration NGO. The following year, she moved to Brussels and worked at the European Parliament as a foreign policy advisor from 2011 to 2017. From February 2017 until September 2022 she worked at the Erasmus University College as a Senior Lecturer, teaching EU law courses and coordinating the International Law Major.
