I am a physical oceanographer investigating the variability of ocean circulation patterns and their impact on the transport of tracers, such as heat and salt, and ultimately climate. To do so, I run and analyze numerical computer simulations. My particular expertise is the Lagrangian analysis, that is, the simulation and interpretation of the spreading of virtual (fluid) particles. Using this approach, I have provided new insights on different small- and large-scale aspects of the global oceanic overturning circulation and worked on interdisciplinary projects addressing, e.g., the impact of ocean circulation on chemical tracers, fish larvae, and marine plastic.
