Sandra M. Hauswirth is a Post Doctoral Researcher working in the project Unravel - Unravelling and forecasting the drivers of drought recovery and termination together with Steye Verhoeve (PhD candidate) and Niko Wanders (Principal Investigator). In this project she is working on developing a large-scale hybrid groundwater model, to assess and analyze the drivers (natural and anthropogenic) of groundwater drought recovery at a global scale.
During her joint PhD project with Utrecht University and Rijkswaterstaat in 2020-2023 she focused on quantifying drought impacts on water resources using machine learning. By combining local models and large scale forecasting and climate ensembles, she managed to bridge the gap from global to local scale regarding hydrological drought modelling and worked at the interface between research and application. Sandra M. Hauswirth has a background in Environmental Sciences and Engineering (ETH Zürich, 2018).
