Dr. Stefanie Sprong

Stefanie is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Interdisciplinary Social Science of Utrecht University and affiliated with the European Research Centre on Migration and Ethnic Relations (ERCOMER). Her research covers a variety of topics related to social inequality, migration and integration, and education. In her current work, she primarily focuses on gender, ethnic and religious discrimination in different life domains and across the life course. 

Currently, she is the co-PI of the Horizon-funded EqualStrength project which investigates cumulative and structural forms of discrimination, outgroup prejudice and hate crimes against ethnic, racial and religious minorities. Together with two researchers from the University of Amsterdam she also leads a project on labour market discrimination in the Netherlands.

Before joining Utrecht University, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Economic and Social Research Institute. She obtained her PhD from the Department of Sociology at Trinity College Dublin. In her PhD research, she examined academic achievement gaps by migration background in Ireland and explored the potentially equalising role of early childhood education and care.
