Santiago Vrech is a PhD candidate in philosophy who is currently conducting a NWO funded project titled "Is the sky the limit? Going beyond terrestrial property." Here is a short description of it:
The space industry has seen an unprecedented economical and technological growth in the past decade. Private companies propelling this development want to have private ownership rights over celestial bodies and their resources. But is this the justified ownership system for celestial bodies? Taking these new developments as its cue, the PhD project will enquire into the best ownership regime that should be set up in space. For that aim, it will attempt to develop a new theory of ownership which will integrate ethical and environmental factors, while taking into account the specific characteristic of celestial bodies. 

The project is supervised by Prof. dr. Rutger Claassen and dr. Yara Al Salman.
