Rients Galema is Associate Professor of Finance at Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.). His research focuses on sustainable finance and banking and has been published in, among others, Review of Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of International Money and Finance, and Journal of Financial Stability.

At U.S.E., Rients served as Director of Undergraduate Studies and member of the department’s management team from 2021 to 2024. He teaches courses in corporate finance, banking, risk management, and sustainability, and supervises bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. theses.

Rients holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Business from the University of Groningen, where his dissertation focused on microfinance as a form of socially responsible investment.
