I hold an LLM in comparative constitutional law (CEU’05) and MSc in Public Administration (Leiden’06). I defended my PhD (cum laude) on property rights in personal data at Tilburg University in 2011 under the supervision of prof.dr. Corien Prins. After the PhD I briefly worked in law practice at a top-tier Dutch law firm. Prior to the appointment as a professor I was an Associate Professor at the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT) at Tilburg University where I researched and taught on a range of law and technology topics including data protection and privacy law, regulation of medical technologies, economic analysis of data protection law, data governance, ownership of data, and others. In 2016 I was awarded an ERC starting grant for a project “Understanding information for legal protection of people against information-induced harms” (INFO-LEG).
