I studied history in Amsterdam and afterwards did a Ph.D in Sociology at the ICS in Utrecht. I worked at several places in the Netherlands and abroad before moving to Utrecht, in particular at the International Institute for Social History. In 2017 Umeå University kinldy awarded me an honorary doctorate.
