Meindert Fennema is emeritus professor in political theory at the department of political science of the University of Amsterdam. His dissertation was published in 1982 (International networks of banks and industry). With William K. Carroll and Eelke Heemskerk he continued working on corporate governance. His most recent publication  in this field is on the Naissaince of quantitative network analysis: When Theory meets Methods (2017, with Eelke Heemskerk)

With Wouter van der Brug and Jean Tillie he has published extensively on anti-immigrant parties and on social capital of immigrant communities and their political participation.

He has published a textbook on the history of democratic theory (Van Thomas Jefferson tot Pim Fortuyn, third edition 2012).

He wrote a biography of Hans Max Hirschfeld, the highest Dutch civil servant during Nazi occupation who after the war implemented the European Recovery Program (2007). More recently he wrote a political biography of the anti-islam politician Geert Wilders (Tovenaarsleerling, Bert Bakker, 2010; second edition 2016).
