Since 2010 my focus is teaching Physiology to bachelor students in Veterinary Medicine, Geosciences, Biomedical Sciences as well as at University College Utrecht. Teaching Physiology means for me trying to elucidate and understand how an organism or an organ system functions in particular in relation to its anatomical form. Scientific research represents the 'building block' for teaching physiological mechanisms at an academic institution, and hence the implementation of research in educational programs is important. At the same time, science has a significant impact on society, and I think it is relevant and important to make these connections visible.

As students are just as different as all people, they may have different expectations from their studies at Utrecht University. Some students wish and are able to do more than their regular program requires. For those students, Utrecht University offers Honours Programs. Since 2012 I am responsible for development of an Honours Program for bachelor students in Veterinary Medicine. Since September 2014 I am also involved in The Descartes College, an interdisciplinary Honours Program for bachelor students at Utrecht University.
