As a PhD candidate in the project "Getting to the CoRe: A Communicative Receptive approach to language learning and mutual understanding in multilingual academic contexts" I am interested in how receptive multilingualism (in Dutch: “luistertaal”) can be used effectively in multilingual meetings. In particular, I analyze authentic multilingual communication occurring in meetings of participatory bodies at Dutch universities. Using discourse analysis and ethnographic methods, I investigate the speech action patterns occurring in meetings and the sociolinguistic factors that impact successful communication. I received my B.A. in International Studies from Boston College and my M.A. in Intercultural Communication from Utrecht University.
