Maite studied Animal Sciences at Wageningen University & Research with a specialisation in behaviour and welfare. She is interested in societal aspects of the human-animal relationship. From 2016 till 2022 she worked as a project leader at the Centre for Sustainable Animal Stewardship (CenSAS) where she was working on multi-stakeholder projects in which participants work together for achieving a responsible and sustainable human-animal relationship. She also was the coordinator of the annual CenSAS Dierendialoog (animal assembly). The central question for CenSAS is: how do we treat animals in a responsible manner and what do we need for that? At this moment Maite is working as a PhD Candidate and doing research about the treatment of rats and mice in pest management.
