Lian van Vemde is a PhD student in the department of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences at Utrecht University and at the Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS). She obtained her BSc in the Academic Primary School Teacher Training at Utrecht University and the Utrecht University of Applied Sciences in 2017. Afterwards she obtained the MSc Educational Sciences: Learning in interaction at Utrecht university (2019).
In her dissertation "Burgerschap door Lesgeven: Onderzoek in de klas (BLOK)", Lian aims to examine how the school context contributes to primary school students' feelings of both classroom and national belonging, as well as their acceptance of diversity.
