Dr Leo Meyer is a  guest lecturer on climate change science, and national and international climate policies amd institutions such as the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) and the UNFCCC (United Nations Convention on Climate Change). He

Biography

Dr Meyer has a university education as physical chemist from Groningen University, the Netherlands (1976). He wrote a PhD thesis on energy conservation and energy economics, and worked in the area of energy conservation until 1993. From 1993 until 2002, he was deputy Head of the department of Climate Change anda science advisor at the Ministry of Environment of the Netherlands. In that capacity he was member of the Dutch delegations to the UNFCCC and the IPCC. In 2002 he joined the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL). He was Head Technical Support Unit (TSU) of Working Group III of IPCC (Climate Change Mitigation) during the Fourth Assessment, and Head of the TSU of the Synthesis Report of the 5th Assessment of the IPCC (2014). After his retirement from PBL in 2015 he started ClimateContact-Consultancy, focusing on climate science communication and policy.

Research and publications

 Contributions to scientific assessments of the IPCC include: climate change mitigation and its pathways; Carbon Capture and Storage; synthesis of causes, impacts, adaptation and mitigation - Communication of climate science and IPCC reports - Climate Policy after Paris : need for negative emissions in the Netherlands.
