Kai Liu was born in Xuzhou, China on October 12, 1984. Before studying in the Netherlands, Kai obtained a bachelar degree in law and a master degree in occupational safety and health law in China. For almost two years, Kai studied law in Erasmus University Rotterdam and he has been working in Utrecht University since september, 2013, and is under co-supervision by Prof. Frans Pennings and Prof. Teun Jasper. Kai's academic focus is centered on comparative study of the Chinese occupational health and safety law and the European Union legal regime. Meanwhile, he is a member of School of Human Rights Research,  an inter-university alliance of universities and research institutes – a joint effort of the School of Law and the Faculty of the Humanities of Utrecht University, and the Faculties of Law of Maastricht University, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Tilburg University and Leiden University. From May 1st to June 15, 2015, he was visiting scholar in Nanjing University, China. In addition, he is contributor to United Nation’s LEGOSH database (Global Database On National Occupational Safety And Health Legislation), since September 2015. From March 14 to April 12, 2016, he was a visiting scholar in Lund University, Sweden. From 21 November 2016 to 20 May 2017, he is also a visiting researcher in the School of Law of Erasmus University Rotterdam.He successfully defended his dissertation at 12:45 on 1 December 2017. He concluded an employement contract with School of Law, Jiangsu Normal University, China, in October 2017. And from 10 January 2018, he will be working there as an associate professor on a permanent basis.
