Jan Biemans (1974) studied both Law and Philosopy at the University of Groningen and followed the LL.M programma at Harvard Law School (1998-1999). He has practised as a lawyer at Houthoff Buruma, Amsterdam, and, in the Dutch Supreme Court litigation, at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, Amsterdam. In 2011 he defended his Ph.D thesis on the 'Legal effects of undisclosed assignment' at the Radboud University Nijmegen (published at Kluwer).

Since 2013 Jan Biemans is Professor of Law at Utrecht University, where he serves as director of the Bachelor and Master of Notarial Law program. He participates in various boards, advisory boards and law journals.

Jan Biemans publishes and teaches regularly on Property Law, Insolvency Law, Succession Law and Finance Law. He participates in interdisciplinary research (economics, governance, social-pyschology).
