Jorke Kamstra is assistant professor at the Division of Toxicology, Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. He currently works as Researcher and Project Manager on the H2020 GOLIATH project (www.beatinggoliath.eu). The projects aims at developing new testing methods for metabolism disrupting chemicals; chemicals that are associated to metabolic diseases as obesity and type II diabetes. He is involved in developing pre-validated assays for assessing whether metabolism disrupting compounds can affect adipocyte differentiation in human mesenchymal stem cells and murine in vitro models.

His interest lies in how stressors, such as endocrine disruptors, act on the complex mechanisms that drive gene expression and shape phenotype. Deciphering how these mechanisms influence gene pathways, and how epigenetic reprogramming is entangled in these processes are his main focus points.

Dr. Kamstra received his PhD at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in 2017 on the topic transgenerational effects of environmental stress via epigenetic inheritance in zebrafish, followed by a one year Postdoc, further exploring this topic. From 2002 to 2015, he worked as a research technician at the Institute for Environmental Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 2012 he started the master molecular cell biology and received his MSc in 2014 (Cum Laude).
