Hans Vernooij graduated the college in Dutch Agriculture in Farm Animals located in 's Hertogenbosch (1980).  More than 10 years he has been working on the program VAMPP for swine farms to support advice by veterinarians. Furthermore he supported PhD candidates during the experiments with pigs. In this periode he started to study statistics at the Dutch Statistical Society (VVS) and graduated in 1997. At the Hasselt University in Belgium he followed the Master of Statistics Bioinformatics and graduated in 2013 with great distinction.

Due to the consultancies he is also a coauthor in peer reviewed publications.

He teaches statistics to Bachelor students at the veterinary faculty and supports PhD candidates and Master students during the analysis phase in their research. He also teaches statistics in the Master of epidemiology from the Julius Centre of University Medical Centre.

In 2013 he spend a sabbatical period of 5 weeks at Human Sciences and Research Council in Pretoria South Africa where he developed a Random Forest model for HIV status in relation to demographical information and knowledge on HIV prevention from a questionnaire in large scale reseach.
