Ige F. Dekker studied law at the Erasmus University, Rotterdam and University of Groningen. He also studied international law and polemology (peace research) at the University of Groningen and the Inter-University of Dubrovnik.
He was a lecturer in international law at the University of Groningen (1974-1979), the Free University, Amsterdam (1979-1984) and the University of Twente (1984-1994). He is since 1994 working at the School of Law of Utrecht University. In  the period 2002-2008 he was Director of Studies of the Utrecht University School of Law and, since 2008, he is Head of the Utrecht University School of Law and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance.
