I am a post-doctoral researcher at the Plantecophysiology group. My research interests center around the idea that succesfull plants should be able to manage their resources in an optimal way. This can either be to match their growth rate to the level of photosynthesis, but could also be during stressful condition such as floods when plants typically suffer from carbon and energy starvation.

My past work therefore focused on the molecular mechanism of contrasting survival strategies during flooding of the plant. This could be a costly rapid vertical growth to escape the floodwaters, or a cessation of growth to ensure prolonged usage of valuable reserves.

Currently I am investigating how the growth promoting hormones, gibberellin and brassinosteroids, are regulated by light, sugars and the clock; and how this then leads to day-night growth patterns. My second research topic investigates if/how plants can prioritize meristems during flooded conditions by sacrificing older leaves to fuel the meristems with valuable carbon.
