Hans is a lecturer in the CIW bachelor courses Writing, Reasoning and Presenting and Communicating with Infographics, and in the C&O master's course Data Analysis and Data Visualisation. In addition, he supervises internships and practical research.

His research relates to data visualisation and visual communication. He deals with the (visual) communication of expected pension distributions (and the uncertainty surrounding that benefit) and with the interpretation of graphs. He is also one of the counsellors in the promotional project Introducing a new pension system: The importance of distributive, procedural and interactional justice in which challenges regarding communication around the new Dutch pension system are studied.
