Gert-Jan Schoenmakers is an assistant professor of Language & Communication and French linguistics. He is interested in questions from experimental syntax, the status of linguistic phenomena in the gray area of grammaticality, the processing of structural alternatives, the nature of linguistic intuitions, intersubject variation, and methodological and statistical questions. He is also intrigued by the influence of verbal (e.g. grammatical norm violations) and nonverbal cues (e.g. emoji's) in texts from different genres on the attitudes and behavior of the reader.
