Gabriela Szydlowski is a behavioral scientist.

She is currently pursuing her PhD in Behavioral Public Administration. Her current research focuses on stereotyping of public sector workers. Her work asks what are the actual stereotypes that citizens’ hold of public sector workers? She demonstrates that there are stark differences between cultural and media stereotypes compared to the stereotypes citizens actually hold.

Yet, her work goes beyond the exploration of stereotypes. Her work further seeks to understand what factors contribute to stereotyping – such as the influence of media, or personal characteristics such as levels of trust. Finally, her work also evaluates the behavioral impact of stereotyping. How does it affect public employees during their performance, public service delivery, and approach towards clients? How does it affect citizens’ behavior towards public sector workers?

Ultimately, she studies how stereotyping of public employees affect citizen-state interactions, contributing valuable insights to shape policy and practice.
