Erik de Lange (1991) is an assistant professor at Utrecht University. He obtained his Ph.D. at Utrecht University in February 2020, on the basis of a disseration on piracy repression that he wrote as part of the ERC-funded research project 'Securing Europe, fighting its enemies 1815-1914'. He completed both his research master's (cum laude) and bachelor's degree in history at the University of Amsterdam. In 2020, he obtained a travel grant from the Humboldt Yale History Network. He has presented at numerous international conferences and was awared a prize for best gruadate paper at the Consortium on the Revolutionary Era in 2019. From 2021 to 2024, he was an NWO Rubicon-funded visiting researcher at King's College London. His work has been published by Cambridge University Press, Routledge, Böhlau, the Tijdschrift voor Geschiedenis, The Historical Journal and Past & Present.
