Erik de Lange (1991) is an assistant professor at Utrecht University. He obtained his Ph.D. at Utrecht University in February 2020, on the basis of a disseration on piracy repression that he wrote as part of the ERC-funded research project 'Securing Europe, fighting its enemies 1815-1914'. He completed both his research master's (cum laude) and bachelor's degree in history at the University of Amsterdam. In 2020, he obtained a travel grant from the Humboldt Yale History Network. He has presented at numerous international conferences and was awared a prize for best gruadate paper at the Consortium on the Revolutionary Era in 2019. His work has been published by Cambridge University Press, Routledge, Böhlau, the Tijdschrift voor Geschiedenis and The Historical Journal.
