Erik Weerts is veterinarian and veterinary pathologist (dipl. ECVP) and works at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department Biomolecular Health Sciences (BHS), Division of Pathology.

After finishing his studies in Veterinary Medicine, differentiation farm/production animals, in September of 2009, Erik Weerts started his residency program in Veterinary Pathology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University. In February of 2014 he became diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (examination held in Ghent, Belgium). In June of 2023 he succesfully defended his PhD-thesis about avian coronavirus-inducted pathology in poultry. Erik performs diagnostic research (necropsies on domestic, exotic and wild animals; biopsy examination), has several tasks in teaching and participates in scientific research in collaboration within and outside the Faculty.

 

Erik has broad interests both professionally and informally, has an eye for detail, always tries to contribute in a creative, original and colorful way and considers maintaining network and social contacts as very important.
