Restoring immune tolerance in Rheumatoid Arthritis

The immune system is of critical importance in the regulation of immune responses. It is able to detect pathogens, and clear them quickly, with the aim of keeping you healthy. However, when the immune system starts reacting against its own antigens, problems will occur. This is called ‘Loss of Tolerance’, and often results in the development of autoimmune diseases. My research is focused on restoring immune tolerance to self-antigens, using antigen-specific tolerogenic dendritic cells and nanoparticles.
