Dr. Blanca Corona (Bellostas) is currently an Assistant Professor at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University. She is an Industrial Design graduate from the University of Zaragoza and obtained her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Environmental Engineering at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). Before obtaining her tenured position as an Assistant Professor, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of innovative technologies for renewable energies.
She has more than ten years of experience in the sustainability assessment of innovative technologies and products in the context of the circular economy. Although she specialises in different LCA methodologies (Environmental LCA, Social LCA, LCC), she has expertise in other socio-economic analysis methodologies and indicators such as Multiregional Input-Output Analysis, circularity metrics, market assessments and labour statistics.
She regularly participates as a sustainability researcher in national and international European projects and has co-authored over 25 research articles in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. She is part of the international Social Life Cycle Alliance, and contributed to the writing of the new guidelines on Social LCA, under the umbrella of the UNEP. She has also done research stays at several institutions, including the Technical University of Denmark (Copenhagen, Denmark), the Stony Brook University (New York, USA) Technical University of Federico Santa María de Chile (Valparaiso, Chile), and the Spanish public institute for energy, environment and technology research (CIEMAT) in Madrid, Spain.
Besides her research activities, her responsibilities include coordinating Bachelor's and Master's courses on quantitative sustainability assessment and the day-to-day supervision of Ph.D. students, junior researchers, and Master’s degree students.
