Andrew (Anne) van de Weerd studied geology at Utrecht University, obtained his PhD in paleontology in 1976, remained at the university as a postdoc and started working as an exploration and development geologist for the oil and gas industry in 1980. He was active world-wide and explored many basins. He has worked for major integrated companies, smaller independents and as a consultant in areas such as Western Canada, the SE Asian basins, basins in Northern Africa, deep-water deposits offshore East India, deep-water deposits offshore West Africa, most countries in the Middle East and in the North Sea basin. During the last nine years of his career in industry he was involved in many geothermal projects, mostly in the Netherlands. After his retirement from industry in 2017 Andrew returned to the University of Utrecht as a guest researcher. He joined the project "The Paleogene rodent faunas from south-east Serbia". He cooperates in this project with Wilma Wessels (University of Utrecht), Hans de Bruijn (deceased), Zoran Markovic and Miloš Milivojevic (both Museum of Natural History in Belgrade, Serbia). Most of the published papers are in a collection of the journal Palaeobiodiversity and Palaeoenvironments (https://link.springer.com/collections/hdhcegggff)
