My main area of focus at Utrecht University is the development of carbon capture, storage, and, in particular, utilisation. Achieving sustainable CO2 conversion is a huge challenge, requiring cross-disciplinary research to discover, design, develop, and optimize new materials and processes. This is where my research comes into play - computational chemistry/physics allows one to tackle problems where experiments are too expensive, take too long, or simply are not possible (e.g., extremely high pressures).
