Thanks for dropping by! Even if you opened this page accidentally or pressed the wrong button, you might want to stay and have a read - a lot of great discoveries happened by chance anyway...

 

My main area of focus at Utrecht University is the development of carbon capture, storage, and, in particular, utilisation. Achieving sustainable CO2 conversion is a huge challenge, requiring cross-disciplinary research to discover, design, develop, and optimize new materials and processes. This is where my research comes into play - computational chemistry/physics allows one to tackle problems where experiments are too expensive, take too long, or simply are not possible (e.g., extremely high pressures).

 

Briefly, my project comprises:

  • Materials: Fe-S compounds, Copper oxides, Zn-P phases, interfaces
  • Applications: catalytic potential in the conversion of CO2, photovoltaics, magnetic interactions, thermoelectrics...
  • Techniques: ab-initio modelling (DFT, AIMD, TD-DFT)
