The research in my lab revolves around the diverse lifestyles that pathogenic bacteria adopt to evade antibiotic treatment during infections. We study both fundamental and applied aspects of these phenomena, but we are particularly interested in how bacterial mobile genetic elements shape and exploit these detrimental for the host bacterial lifestyles. To decipher the mechanistic details of these lifestyles, we use omics-based tools and infection models focusing primarily on the major human pathogens Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Our overall goal is to counteract these mechanisms in order to design effective and generalizable treatment strategies for bacterial infections.
