Guido van den Ackerveken is professor and chair of Translational Plant biology. At the TPB group we work in the field of translational plant biology. Translational here refers to the translation of fundamental research on plants to application in crop breeding. We focus our research on plant architecture and disease resistance and susceptibility, and how this is influenced by environmental factors. These are important topics in the context of climate change and sustainable food production.
As the Scientific Director of the CropXR institute I am responsible for supervising the various scientific programs of this unique consortium that unites academic institutions and industrial partners. CropXR engages in the development of robust and resilient crops for sustainable and climate-adapted agriculture. Its multidisciplinary approach combines plant sciences, data sciences, artificial intelligence and social sciences. One of its aims is to create ‘smart data’ methods that lead to accelerated breeding and the production of eXtra Resilient crops.
