Willy Sier is an assistant professor at Utrecht University's department of anthropology. She got her PhD in 2020 at the University of Amsterdam where she studied the renegotiation of rural-urban relations by education migrants in China's Hubei province. As a postdoc in an ERC-funded team that investigated reconfigurations of whiteness in the Chinese context, Willy focused on the production of racial knowledge in racialised romantic relationships. Currently, Willy continues to conduct research in China's rapidly urbanizing and increasingly diverse society, with a focus on questions of mobility, gender, family and reproduction. She is also in the late stages of writing her book manuscript entitled: Dream Chasers: Becoming Urban in the New China.
