Shiya Hu is a Ph.D. candidate specializing in media studies and cultural studies. By analyzing the representation of food in A Bite of China, her research investigates how A Bite of China negotiates the official ideologies of the Chinese Dream through the representation of food. Ultimately, her research reveals the active role of media representation in constructing meanings as well as the interplay of food documentaries and broader social and cultural contexts in contemporary China.

Before Utrecht University, Shiya received her Master of Media & Creative Industries from Erasmus University Rotterdam and her Bachelor of International Studies from Leiden Univeristy.
