Dr. Bruenger completed her undergraduate and master studies in German as a Foreign and Second Language, and Romance Studies (Italian and Portuguese) at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (Germany) and received a jointly awarded PhD by the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (Germany) and the University of Verona (Italy) in 2013.

From 2009 to 2014 she was a scientific assistant at the Department of Romance Studies and a freelance teacher for German and Italian at the Language Center of the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena. She participated in various international exchange programs, visiting diverse educational institutions in Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal and the USA.

From 2014 to 2018 she worked as a lecturer for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at the German Department of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). After returning to Germany, she taught German as a Second Language to future educators at the Department of German Studies at the University of Regensburg.

Her natural curiosity for the world then brought her to Asia, where she worked as a DAAD lecturer from 2021 to 2023 at the Centre for Language Studies of National University of Singapore. 

Since June 2023, she has embarked on a new journey in the Netherlands with the Department of Languages, Literature and Communication of the University of Utrecht.
