I did my bachelor’s in Biology and studied Molecular Biology in my master’s where I was trained as molecular cell biologist. In 2012 I completed my PhD on intercellular transport in Aspergillus, followed by a post doc on cellular heterogeneity in Aspergillus niger at the Microbiology group, Utrecht University with Han Wösten. With my Marie Curie Fellowship I did an extended 4-year post doc with Nick Read at the University of Manchester, UK, on cellular heterogeneity of conidia and their germination in Aspergillus fumigatus during antifungal treatment. As part of this, I did a secondment to Institut Pasteur with Jean-Paul Latgé to test the impact of cell wall composition on heterogeneous subpopulations of conidia during antifungal treatment (caspofungin). I returned to Utrecht University in 2017 to do a post doc on transport in Agaricus bisporus to study nutrient transport. During this time, I developed various imaging techniques including (fluorescent) scanning imaging using flatbed scanners, which are currently being tested by industry to monitor colonisation and product quality. In Oxford I did a secondment with Mark Fricker to work on transport using imaging of radiotracers and fungal network analysis. In 2021 I received a NWO Vidi grant to start my own research line on regulation of fungal network architecture and water/nutrient transport.
