Dr Maikel Waardenburg, studied Public Administration and Organizational Science at Utrecht University School of Governance (USG). He graduated from the Organization, Culture and Management programme (2006) and the Sport Policy and Sport Management programme (2007). His dissertation (2016) is titled: 'Double Play: On the Instrumentalization of Voluntary Sport Clubs' and centres on the wider social roles sport clubs play in society. He lead an interdisciplinary research project that focused on the meaning of sports activities for refugees living a reception centre. Recently he finished a three year multiple case study on public value creation through public-private partnerships.
