Modelling-based learning (MbL) stelt leerlingen in staat wetenschappelijke ideeën te ontwikkelen, meerdere representaties te gebruiken en hun eigen verklaringen te construeren. Het bevordert zowel vakinhoudelijke kennis als competenties zoals wetenschappelijk redeneren en inzicht in de aard van de wetenschap. Het EMPOWER-project heeft als doel MbL in heel Europa te stimuleren door informatie over MbL aan te bieden, zelfstudiemodules voor leraren te ontwikkelen en lesmateriaal beschikbaar te stellen voor verschillende typen scholen, leerjaren en vakken.

Within this pilot project, we will lay the foundation for the development of the Quantum Concept Inventory, an instrument to assess students understanding of quantum physics and quantum technologies' key concepts in a context-independent way. Our test instrument that reflects the communities’ requirements will be of value for all upcoming European projects on teaching and learning about quantum technologies at the secondary school level, for example in the context of the evaluation studies.
