Jaap van Slageren is an Assistant Professor in Human Geography and Spatial Planning. His research interests focus on regional variation in political attitudes and voting behavior, especially concerning economic and cultural determinants of the populist radical right. In general, Jaap takes an interdisciplinary approach, combining insights from sociology, political science, and geography to examine voting patterns and political attitudes. Using these lenses, he studies populism, democratic values, socio-cultural attitudes, and climate skepticism. In his teaching, Jaap specializes in making (quantitative) methodology and academic skills understandable.
