Irene Bavuso is Assistant Professor at the Department of History and Art History of Utrecht University. She is an early medieval historian, and her research concentrates on networks of trade, production, mobility and circulation of technical knowledge. She addresses these themes through a comparative and interdisciplinary approach across post-Roman northwestern Europe. 
She took a D.Phil. in History at the University of Oxford and held post-doctoral positions at the Institute of Historical Research (London), the Université libre de Bruxelles, the DFG-funded ‘Migration and Mobility in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages’ Centre for Advanced Studies at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, and the Centre for Urban Network Evolutions (UrbNet), Aarhus University.
