Research Project: Autonomy and Equality: The Origins of a Modern Belief in the Enlightenment

My post-doctoral project focuses on the various ways that equality became politicized in eighteenth-century England and France in the pre-revolutionary period by investigating new cultural practices that reinforced individual autonomy and obscured social distinctions and hierarchies.
