Angelo Moretti (he/him) is an Associate Professor of Statistics in the Department of Methodology and Statistics at Utrecht University. He obtained his PhD in Social Statistics from the University of Manchester (UK), where his research focused on multivariate small area estimation and was funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), through a grant for which he served as Principal Investigator. He also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (PgCert).

He is the Principal Investigator of the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant project SAESDGs-EU (2026–2030; €1.5 million), which develops innovative small area estimation methods to monitor progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals at the subnational level across the European Union.

Angelo is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and a Fellow of the International Association of Survey Statisticians, the Italian Statistical Society, and the European Survey Research Association. He has served on the ESRA Executive Committee since 2023 and is Conference Chair for the 2025–2027 term. He is also an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Manchester.

His research focuses on survey statistics, particularly small area estimation, data integration (including statistical matching and record linkage), and the use of non-traditional data sources for statistical inference. His work has applications in poverty and social exclusion, as well as attitudes towards minorities, with a particular focus on LGBTIQ+ populations. He also provides methodological consultancy to public and private organisations on survey statistics and methodology.
