Educational Sciences knowledge and insights

The content of the Master’s programme’s educational sciences component has a foundation in the field of educational psychology, and includes:

  • theories of expertise
  • theories of learning and instruction
  • theories of assessment and evaluation
  • theories of organisational development

It also deals with applying and integrating knowledge and insights in the field of social sciences research pertaining to the field of educational sciences and educational problems:

  • analysis of available knowledge and formulating a definition of the problem
  • designing a research project
  • data collection and analysis
  • reports and critical discussion of the research results
  • scientific integrity

Theoretical foundation

In every course, you will connect the theoretical knowledge presented in the curriculum to critical analyses and solutions to educational science problems, for example in the form of a case study, a problem statement or an internship assignment. The confrontation between theory and practice (deliberate practice) is a constant focus. During the Academic Professional course, you will develop into a critical academic thinker who can switch between theory and practice, and who can identify and solve problems in their social contexts using state-of-the-art knowledge and skills.

Internship

During your internship, you will prepare to work in your later profession by functioning in real-world situations dealing with complex issues. Your internship mentor at the internship organisation and a supervisor from the study programme will provide guidance and support throughout the internship. Some examples of internships and research topics include:

  • TriamFloat (digital learning)
  • CINOP (remedial reading for vocational education and training)
  • Rabobank (evaluation and redesign of talent programme)
  • Hospitality industry training (developing teaching modules)

Master’s thesis

At the end of the programme, your thesis will show that you can conduct research, thereby contributing to finding solutions for complex scientific and social problems.
