Since January 2020, Elmin Omicevic LLM (he/him) has worked as a PhD candidate in transnational law enforcement and fundamental rights at the Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe (RENFORCE) and the Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology at Utrecht University. Elmin's research focuses on the external dimension of European agencies operating within the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice. The research is supervised by Prof. Dr. Cedric Ryngaert and Prof. Dr. Michiel Luchtman, and co-supervised by Dr. Stanislaw Tosza and Dr. Salvatore Nicolosi. During his doctoral research, Elmin served as the Managing Editor of the Netherlands Quarterly of Human Rights (NQHR) from July 2021 to October 2023.

 

Elmin obtained his bachelor's degree (Utrecht Law College; cum laude) and his master's degree (Criminal Law; cum laude), both in combination with a certificate for participation in the honours programme, at Utrecht University. In the course of his bachelor's education, Elmin studied at the University of Lund (Sweden) for one semester. Furthermore, during his studies Elmin did an internship at the criminal law firm Ficq & Partners Advocaten and at the law firm CMS (administrative law section), and gained experience as a registrar / court clerk at the criminal law department of the District Court Midden-Nederland.
