My research focuses on better understanding adaptive behavior: how people adapt to characteristics of their task/environment, cognition, and their priorities or incentives. Of particular interest are the domains of human-automation interaction, multitasking and human-computer interaction. I lead research on automation, specifically regarding human behavior in the (semi-) autonomous car, in collaboration with the Dutch ministry of Transportation and also funded by the European Union (Marie Curie Reintegration Grant)

I investigate how well people adapt to the various factors mentioned above; do they reach optimal performance as predicted by computational cognitive models?

My teaching takes place in various programs, in particular artificial intelligence (BSc and MSc) and psychology (BSc & MSc).

Administratieve duties:

  • (as of September 2021) Education coordinator of the division of Experimental Psychology
  • (as of January 2019) Chair of special interest group within Human-centered AI Focus area
  • (as of June 2016) Associate editor of International Journal of Human-Computer Studies
  • (2016-2021) Board of the MSc program Artificial Intelligence
  • (2015-2016) Coordinator "Cognitive Processing track" for the research Master Artificial Intelligence
  • (2015-2021) member of the study programm committee BSc Artificial Intelligence
