Claudia Maureen Vinke studied biology and is specialized on animal welfare, behaviour and behaviour disorders in animals. After her study in 1992, she started with the development of an aggression test for dogs at the University of Utrecht for the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture. From 1993-1996 she worked at the University of Leiden on a project on the legal and illegal structures in the trade of exotic animal species on request of the Ministry of Justice.

From 1996 Claudia Vinke started at the Department of Animals in Science & Society at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Utrecht, where she finished many projects on the welfare of pet species during trade and pet industry, and she started her research on the phenomenon of ethological needs and the effects of environmental enrichment on the development of behavioural disorders. Her dissertation was finished in 2004.

Since 2002 she works as an assistant professor for education and research on the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine on animal welfare and behavioural disorders in dogs, cats and mustelids and she is a staff member of the Clinic of Veterinary Behavioural Medicine for clinical matters, coordination and organisation.
