Dr. Robert Flierman is assistant professor in Medieval Latin. He has published a monograph on the continental Saxons in the early Middle Ages: Saxon Identities AD 150–900 (London: Bloomsbury, 2017) and worked as a postdoc in the NWO VICI Project ‘Citizenship Discourses in the Early Middle Ages, 400–1100’. Since 2023, he leads a NWO VIDI project on the pragmatics of medieval letter-delivery, entitled ‘Lettercraft and Epistolary Performance in Early Medieval Europe’.

He is the chair of the Utrecht University Centre for Medieval Studies.
