Martine Meuwese is Assistant Professor in medieval art. She studied art history in Leiden, specialising in medieval art, medieval French literature and manuscript studies. As a researcher at the Leiden University NlcM project (Dutch literature and culture in the Middle Ages) she wrote a dissertation on the relationship between text and image in illustrated manuscripts of Jacob van Maerlant's Rijmbijbel and Spiegel Historiael. She worked as a Research Assistant for the Lancelot-Graal project at the University of Pittsburgh, was Research Associate at Cambridge University for the Cambridge Illuminations Project, and Postdoc at Utrecht University for the NWO research project 'Arthurian manuscripts'. She was lecturer in Art History at Utrecht University, Nijmegen University, and at the Open University. From 2011 onwards she is Assistant Professor in medieval art at Utrecht University.

 

She curated three exhibitions: two in Museum Meermanno Westreenianum in The Hague and one in the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica, Amsterdam.
