Thuiswerken (werken op afstand, telewerken) is uiteraard een belangrijke ontwikkeling in de "geografie van werk" sinds de pandemie. Bij de vele gevolgen van die crisis voor werknemers, bedrijven en regio’s vallen twee ontwikkelingen op: de technologische verbeteringen en institutionele ontwikkelingen binnen organisaties. Slimme technologieën kunnen nu leiden tot een ‘optioneel kantoor’. De post-pandemische toename van het thuiswerken kan de bestaande ongelijke verdeling van kansen en ontwikkeling vervolgens substantieel nivelleren.
