Security, conflict and the world

In an age when politics are often international, and conflicts can quickly become global, how can international laws and treaties contribute to establishing stability and peace? Who sets the rules for the world to follow? And how can the rule of law be effectively enforced?

Seeking answers

This LLM aims to set human conflict within a legal framework by finding law-based responses to issues that threaten human rights, political stability and international security. Exploring areas such as international terrorism, arms control, peacekeeping and international criminal law, this programme offers a unique focus on a globally important area of law.

At the heart of the matter

A joint programme from Utrecht University and the University of Sheffield, this LLM allows you to experience two different cultures, broaden your horizons and learn directly from internationally renowned experts. Utrecht’s location in the centre of the Netherlands also leaves you ideally placed to build up links with professionals from nearby major international organisations, including the International Criminal Court in The Hague, the NATO and European Union offices in Brussels and the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.

Complete preparation

Whether you are a student or a legal professional, this LLM combines expert knowledge and practical training to prepare you completely for a career in conflict and security law.
